MELBOURNE'S CBD RESIDENTS EXPECTED TO DOUBLE BY 2041.

Melbourne has overtaken Sydney as Australia's most populous city thanks to the widening of its western boundary.

This is partly due to migrants from India flocking to Melbourne's western fringe. Melbourne has also seen less residents leave in recent years than Sydney.

In the city of Melbourne alone :

The forecasts show by 2041 the number of people living in the City of Melbourne is expected to double and reach over 308,000.

To accommodate this, the city will see over 42,000 new dwellings.

The Property Council recent research has found that vacant office buildings in Melbourne’s CBD have the potential to be transformed into apartments, leading to the creation of up to 12,000 new homes.

Conducted over the past few months, a comprehensive property audit of the city center has identified approximately 90 buildings that have the potential to be repurposed - being “ripe for adaptive reuse”.
